Blog Topic #6

Blogging is similar to facebook, where you can add your friends and leave comments. The blog allows you to meet and exchange thoughts with people in your class, whom you normally wouldn't talk to. This is especially useful for large classes, where people normally don't give a second thought, let alone anyone who's not sitting next to them.

The blog have indeed allow me to share my thoughts on what goes on in class with others. It's nice to see that fellow classmates have similar thoughts as mine. It just feels good to have people agree with you. However, the same can be said about people with different opinions; it's without doubt very interesting to see different points of view, to think of something in a different way, which is similar to the idea that the professor have been advocating (thinking out of the box).

I found the professors blog to be helpful, to be able to get management and life tips from someone who has been through it is definitely a bonus. I like the fact that it's not completely unrelated to our class topics, but has a lot of the things that we've learn, which means what we've learning in class is authentic :].

I'm usually on the computer, so blogging was a breeze. And having it worth 20% of our grade is definitely a plus! Since I haven't done so good on the exams, it's a peace a mind to know that the blog is a grade booster :]

Overall I think the blog is a great idea, and it really allows us to exchange our ideas and meet new people. I believe that the blog should continue to be a component in this course because it will provide that 'thinking out of the box' idea! (of course the kicka55 class experiments help with that as well ;]). I will definitely continue to blog about anything that comes up!

  1. Hey,

I agree with a lot of things that you mentioned. I definitely feel that the idea of using a blog as a component of the class was a great thing because it allows for a lot more communication among students then otherwise possible. I personally enjoyed the blogs, and you are right, Prof's blog entries were really helpful especially since he has so much experience and knowledge about the corporate world and the subject of management.

  2. I agree with most of things you mentioned. It is really helpful and make us think out of box. But I don't know about how the professor will grade our blogs so i'm not sure if this 20% is easy or not.

  3. No offense, but I absolutely despise the fact that you compared blogging to facebook. I think that blogs (maybe just the good ones) have much more depth to them then facebook profiles. Through blogs you can access people, complete strangers, outside of your normal run-of-the-mill networks. And when I say "access", its a totally different meaning for each medium. "Access" through facebook is just merely 'friend'ing people whom of which you might have only met once in your life, or maybe never at all. You browse through their pictures and information, which is pretty much like stalking. It's such a shallow type of interaction, if it can even be called interaction at all. Blogs contain (or should contain) wholesome ideas, experiences, and points of view that actually say something meaningful. Not just a worthless "working", or "studying for finals", or "OMG i love this sooong!" In addition the "access" is the real consideration for the blogger's thoughts and commenting on them in a critical and productive way.

Anyways, sorry to take out my secret hatred of facebook and social networking out on you. No hard feelings were meant.

  4. I disagree I don't think blogging is like facebook since facebook is just a social network. People just update their status or look at pictures but nothing else. I think blogging is more than that. You can express yourself and write about more one blogs.

Although, I agree with you when you said blogging was a breeze. I'm usually on the computer also which made it easier for me to blog on time.

  5. The blog was definitely easy. I agree that it's an awesome way to get 20% of our grade. The idea of meeting new people though... I'm not entirely sure. How many people are you friends with that you met through the blog? I mean, if you don't sit near them, I doubt you'd talk to them. If you only talk to them on their blogs, does it count?

  6. The blog was a great idea and easy 20% of our grade. I'm also on the computer a lot, so this was also a breeze for me to complete. I don't completely disagree with you like a few others who commented about facebook not being the same as blogging. I think facebook has some similar elements to blogging such that you are socializing and trying to get a message across to friends and other people. But at the same time, blogging is much more in depth, and more serious than what facebook has to offer. It's a different way in expressing yourself rather than Facebook.

It was definitely interesting to see what other ideas were in the class. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who feels a certain way about something. Seeing others with the same or similar thoughts provides a sense of self assurance.

  7. Yeah i agree with most of your points about the blog, but the problem that i have with the blog is that i always forget to do them on time. And also i am not that savvy with the internet so it was hard for me to keep track of friends and all of them. Maybe if they made it a bit more user friendly like facebook.

  8. Hey I do agree with you in most of the parts. It did provide a way to express thoughts and opinions and definitely to think outside the box.I personally did enjoy reading Professor Kurpis's blogs as it gave me an insight. Even though blogging is like facebook, however it offers a lot more than that. It helps to share ideas and thoughts on topics which you really can't do with facebook. Overall, I did like the fact it was worth 20% of the grade.
